The Bank of Pennville was burglarized at 3 2 a.m. Saturday. The safe was blown open and the vault damaged. About $100 was found on the floor, while estimates place cash in vault between $4,000 and $7,000. Officials withhold figures awaiting head Lupton’s return from Hartford City. burglars fled by buggy as Pennville population of 700 awoke.
Two women argued over a single pair of black stockings at a Canal Street house. Police, bicycle patrols, and a local arbiter group weighed the matter after a 7 p.m. report of revolver flashing proved unfounded. The court of arms settled: Mrs Harrison gets one stocking, Miss Blackwell the other.

Averitte Barker sued Mrs. Gertrude Andrews for 22 dollars and won 18 in Justice Smock's court. Barker was hired to uncover if a dentist would date women who visited his office. A woman agreed to see if she could arrange dates with the dentist, but the summary ends before a final outcome is stated.
The Big Four railroad secured a temporary restraining order in superior court on Saturday against the Indianapolis Shelbyville and Southeastern traction company to stop construction of a grade crossing over the Big Four tracks in Fairfield Shelby County. Mrs Leander Cox of Irvington was trampled at Pennsylvania and Washington streets Saturday afternoon and seriously injured when a horse driven by Douglas Jillson of 1424 North Delaware street struck her. She was taken to the dispensary. Jillson was jailed for drunkenness and assault charges and for driving on the wrong side. A large crowd gathered as the incident occurred. Jillson is the son of W M Jillson of Knight and Jillson and is employed by the firm.

Morgan County officials consider granting franchises for a new electric interurban line from Indianapolis to Waverly via the Three Notch and Bluff roads. Petitioners Paul Light of Indianapolis and John H. McCaslin of Franklin ask Marion County authorities to approve routes from city limits to South Indianapolis and from there to Waverly, about 18 miles from Indianapolis. Shirley Jack Shepard, a colored pauper, claimed he grabbed a coat by mistake in police court. Prosecutor Collins objected and Judge Stubbs postponed until Tuesday for another witness. Foster C Shirley, the sun's pauper attorney, intervened and won release on own recognizance.
A partial British casualty list from the Vreikuil engagement on March 31 shows 26 killed and 110 wounded among Gen Kitchener’s forces fighting Gen Delarey near Transvaal.

Christian Karle a prominent Indianapolis resident died Friday at his home 1614 Central Ave after years of ill health. He came to Indianapolis in 1890 and worked in retail shoe business for over 49 years. He belonged to Masonic and Odd Fellows orders and to the Pioneer society. He is survived by four children J C Karie Caroline Ruckelshaus Emily Spohr and Genoese Johnson of Pensacola Fla. The funeral is set for 2 pm Sunday at the house with burial at Crown Hill.
The safety board delays settling the lease for Irvington's chemical engine site at Washington and Butler streets. The old street car barn lessee seeks 80 dollars monthly. Chief Coots says the chemical may be kept there permanently, though board approval is not yet given.
Spanish-American War veterans announce their national association's convention will be postponed from May to September in Indianapolis. The delay stems from a dispute with George H. D P Erwin has been in a Baltimore hospital for the past two weeks with Mrs Erwin. It is expected he will be home about April 15. His colleagues say the illness is not serious, but he needed rest and went to the hospital to obtain it.

A traveling man C M Woolworth married Jane May Hurd in Indianapolis after a tale of love at first sight. The bride says he hypnotized her into wedlock and subjected her to ill treatment on their Boston wedding trip leading to a divorce filing. Local directory records do not list Woolworth.
