A vast Thursday-Friday cyclone swept the west and midwest, destroying Towanda Kansas and other towns. Nine killed in a Philadelphia style building in Towanda and widespread injuries and wrecks reported across Kansas Missouri Illinois Iowa Michigan and Canada.
A work train crashed into a freight caboose at Bennett coal mines near Lebanon on the Ohio and Mississippi road. Twenty four section men were aboard. no deaths were reported though several suffered injuries including hips, head, legs and back, and facial cuts. Injured workers include Dick Howlton of Washington Indiana Edward Bartholomew of Clay City Neil Dougherty of Olney J Dougherty of Olney Geo Wheatland of Wheatland Indiana and brakeman Charles May among others.
