A barefoot, rainwear clad burglar confessed to entering or attempting about twenty homes on the city’s east side and stole a $195 safe from the Franklin Stores grocery at 940 East Thirtieth. The safe was found later near White River. He was arrested at Hanois and Marnet streets on vagrancy charges after officers noted lack of small change. The suspect, Raymond Green, 16, of 94 Paca Street, was held for further investigation. Several other East Side thefts occurred as police patrolled the area.

Charles H. Anthony a 65 year old Muncie financier and ex grand circuit horseman, wounded himself with a .32 caliber revolver at his home after a period of illness and despondency. He was taken to Home hospital with the bullet lodged behind his right eye and is listed in critical condition. Wife Hattie Anthony aided him as he fought to pull the weapon free, saying he intended the shot to miss him.

Neal Neimeyer a 76 year old veteran, killed his sister in law Ruth Alfreds with a butcher knife in his Linden Street home and then fatally wounded himself. He told police he was tired of living before dying at City Hospital about an hour later. Mrs Alfreds, 81, was found on a bed in a front room with a severed head, while Neimeyer lay in a rear kitchen area with a butcher knife and other blades nearby. Neighbors recall the couple as in good spirits recently, with Neimeyer having health and despondency issues. The couple had kept house for him while he remodeled, and Neimeyer was a cement contractor and Civil War veteran. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Covington after funeral arrangements.
