New Albany Tragedy As Man Kills Wife Then Ends His Life
William Porter, 40, a car penter, shot and killed his former wife Netile Porter, 20, in an alley near Sunper at 6 30 p m and then fatally wounded himself. The couple, divorced in April on cruelty and drunkenness charges, left two sons, Kenneth 19 and Robert 1, with Porter dying instantly in the self inflicted wound. Netile Porter, a store employee, was widely known here as the daughter of Mr and Mrs Edward Savage of 1919 Center Street. Witnesses said Porter had shadowed his ex wife for days. she died after being shot in the head near the ear as her brother Irvin Savage arrived. Porter killed himself with a shot to the right eye. The coroner and local residents reported the tragedy as a violent drunken dispute.
