Lon Bird 73, a prosperous farmer of Greensburg area, died after his car at Logan's crossing was struck by an I. and G. traction car. He died at 2 30 PM after being chin crushed and jaw broken, with the auto demolished and the interurban guard torn off. Survived by brother James Bird and three sisters. Brockton Massachusetts September 14 William F Bowen of East Bridgewater questioned in the murder case of Mrs Alice M Wolschendorf parts of whom were found in the Merrimac river at Tyngsboro. Bowen drank poison and cut his throat but is dying in a hospital. Dr William R Robb of Boston and Dr Dalya Swope of Brockton were charged with related acts and accessories. Bowen's family says he was despondent when questioned by state police. Mrs Wolschendorf drove Bowen’s car for a year and a half. last seen with her and Bowen near Robb’s office in Boston on August 7. Bowen discovered moaning behind bushes. his condition blamed on exposure and the press. State officers investigating the case arrived from Boston. Bowen is a 53 year old real estate dealer, married with seven children.
Washington reports a petition from sixty Californians asking amnesty for remaining Federal penitentiary inmates convicted under wartime laws. It names Rev Edward Parsons Bishop Cantwell Joseph McQuelde Lyman Wilbur and others, noting 21 of 23 prisoners were California convicts in Sacramento case dealings.
Paper marks totaling five trillion five hundred billion were aboard a German airplane forced to land at Knocke Sur Mer near Bruges. The crew of three Germans claimed cargo was mail and newspapers and offered no destination. Authorities suspect the money aided a resistance effort but provided few details.
