Chicago police report Harvey W. Church was brought to the city after the murder of Bernard Daugherty and Gar I Ausmus. Daugherty, 88, a Harvard alumnus and ex tank corps captain from St Paul, and Ausmus, Bloomington native, were found murdered after luring them to a beverage stop and drugging them. Church allegedly planned to buy a car for his father in Adams Wisconsin, with Daugherty and Ausmus assisting.
