Alton Illinois July 25 a detonator department blast at the Western Cartridge Company killed Donald HL Fairfield a testing engineer and injured several women workers. Fairfield was testing an apparatus for determining blasting cap resistance when the explosion occurred.

Special to The Indianapolis News reports Victor Haskins 4 years old drowned in Piccon Creek near West Franklin Street bridge after slipping into muddy water while fishing with an improvised outlet. His body sent to Warrick County for burial. Ernest Wells 10, son of Mr and Mrs James Wells of Grayville, IL, drowned in the Wabash River while wading with a swimmer party. unable to swim, he stepped into shallow water and disappeared. The Wells are ex-residents of Posey County.
City Councilman Otto Ray urged a special investigating committee to identify who ordered the Saturday and Sunday raids aimed at removing undesirable characters. Mayor Shank faced calls for impeachment if he or Inspector White ordered the actions. Walter Wise supported the probe, while Charley Koehring backed damages claims for those arrested. Dismissals reduced the total indictments. debates over police conduct continued amid a poolroom crackdown and the death investigation of Chris Schick after a poolroom brawl.

Paul Helb age 25 of 485 South Rhder avenue and Thelma Mendenhall 13 of 000 West Market street died in separate collisions with trains at crossings. Helb was killed instantly when his truck was struck by a live stock train at Bimerton avenue and Prospect street. Thelma suffered severe injuries after a wagon collision with a westbound Terre Haute Indianapolis Western Traction train near Stop 12. The mother Mrs. Jane Mendellhall and others were hurt but Thelma died later. Witnesses reported the trains and crossings had no warning deficiencies observed. The fatalities are under investigation by city officials.
Twenty men under Bert Morgan visit soft drink parlors as part of an early cleanup campaign. Huge quantities of liquor are confiscated during the operation.
Federal agents swooped on Fort Wayne rounding up at least a dozen men tied to liquor operations as part of a statewide drive. Names include George McCarthy and Louis Gordon among bartenders and proprietors. arrests followed a warning roundup with Evansville also reporting a single arrest at the Tiquer Inn.
Crawfordsville Indiana July 16 two Indianapolis boys Theodore Shaul 12 son of W L Shaul 2020 North Illinois Street and Willem Donnelly reportedly ran away from home. They were seen walking along a highway toward home before being located by authorities.
Soeeph R. Roach, Indianapolis attorney, will move to Chicago August 1 to join Patrick H. O'Donnell in a new partnership. Roach has advised in federal election fraud cases and served as special assistant district attorney in Indianapolis. He previously practiced with Clifford Kealing and James W. Mellen.
