Strathmann Faces Liquor Charge in Marion County Court

Edward C. Strathmann, head of Bedford Stone and Conscion Company, stood trial in Marion County Criminal Court on a liquor violation. Police found 750 gallons wine and beer at his plant. he claimed guests helped and he did not drink wine. Special Judge Holtzman overruled a motion to quash and will hear further arguments Thursday.

Big Four Rate Hearings Open in Indiana Court Room

Arthur R. Mackley of the Interstate Commerce Commission opened a hearing on Big Four railroad and iron and steel rates between Terre Haute, southern Indiana, and northern Wisconsin. Rates increased in March by the Big Four and suspended March 24 by the commission after a complaint by the Indiana State and Terre Haute Chambers of Commerce. The proposed rise ran from 3 to 5 cents per 100 pounds, with legal representatives for the railroad and the chambers listed.

Fraternal Association Incorporated Here in Indianapolis

An organization named Brothers and Sisters of the World was incorporated yesterday in Indianapolis with Dr. Charles H. Johnson heading the chapter. John F. Kersh serves as secretary treasurer. The group aims to mutual aid and social fraternal work, having originated in Oklahoma and spreading to Ohio and other Midwest states.

Twenty Gallons of Liquor Seized in Garage Raid

A squad led by Lieut. Jones seized twenty gallons of grain alcohol hidden behind a door in a garage at 1013 North Meridian street. A man named Jackson was identified as the renter. Police also raided a room at 105 West Marrs, arresting Thomas Casey on a separate charge after finding one quart of white mule and numerous empty cans and glasses.

Higher carfare nets small gain

The Street Railway Company raised fares to 7 cents under a Public Service Commission order. June revenue rose to $417,004.94 from $411,244.94 the previous year, a net increase of $5,760. May saw a $13,704 excess with ten days of higher fares. A $14,000 payment for new streetcars and equipment caused an overdraft in the reserve fund.

Campaign Song Promises Popularity for Election Campaign

Edward Hast and Henry K Burton wrote a campaign song titled Ikeep Cool With Coollége for talking machines. Heal Four quartet records it with local members Willard Brant Herold Winelow Charles Hariig and Victor Danl nacher plus Mr East as vocal soloist with Charlie Davie orchestra. Burton previously wrote several campaign songs as Republican state committee aide and Indiana polls song Indlengpolls My Home Town. The new song is spirited and effective and aims to gain popularity in the upcoming campaign.

Four youths arrested for auto stripping in Delbert Gentry case

Otto Austermiller 23 Delbert Gentry 18 Dean Austermiller brother of Otto and Walter Rasmungen 18 were arrested after being seen stripping a car owned by Lawrence Billott at East Thirty-fourth Street Sixteenth Street and Indiana avenue. Three tires and coils were found at Dean Austermiller’s home. They face petit larceny charges.
