At the Statehouse a brawl erupted after a dispute over oil company stocks. C. L. Bartlett head of a Columbus concern and Maurice Mendenhall state security official were involved in the altercation, fists flying as police attempted to break it up.
Indiana Oil Refining president O L Bartlett and Maurice Mendenhall administrator of the state securities department exchanged blows in the Indiana Statehouse after a securities commission hearing on the oil company affair. A receiver had been appointed in Bartholomew Circuit Court to oversee the company amid blue sky law charges. The altercation led to a brief bout as officials separated them. No one was seriously hurt. The commission postponed action and continued the matter.

Debs will linger in Indianapolis over two hours this afternoon en route from Washington to Terre Haute. A large Socialist group will greet him at Union Station on arrival around 1:85 PM, then he will go to a hotel before boarding another train at 4:56 PM to finish his trip home.
Funeral services for William A. Ketcham ex attorney general of Indiana and national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic will be held at his home at 4108 North Capitol Avenue on Thursday or Friday afternoon depending on the return of his daughter Miss Lilla Ketcham from Eureka Utah. The Parry Stephenson post American Legion and Henry Co. Ketcham will march as guard of honor. The G A R ritual will be used with Rev Edward Haines Kistler of Fourth Presbyterian Church delivering the sermon. He had been in frail health since the last G A R encampment in September and had appeared in public little since then. The note continues on page seven.
A man described as a postal inspector entered Oklahoma City police headquarters and, after offering a cigarette, incapacitated a officer and stole fingerprint evidence and a bottle of explosive material. Two physicians treated the injured officer. The suspect reportedly discussed the robbery before escaping with the prints and evidence.
The country home of Evans Woollen, president of Fletcher Savings and Trust Company, was destroyed by fire late last night. Loss estimated at 45000 dollars. Broad Ripple fire department aided the family and neighbors in a futile attempt to check the blaze. The home stood about a mile north and two miles east of Broad Ripple. Fire blamed on coal fire in an upstairs grate. A colored servant discovered the fire and woke the family and staff before it spread. Upper floor furniture and some on the lower floor were destroyed. total loss. The new frame house had ten rooms, erected in the last year.
Fire destroyed the upper story of a house at 217 College avenue and uncovered twenty four barrels of mash and complete still apparatus. Damage estimated around $1,000. Police found jugs and liquor in the basement and seek a man named A Ferricane who reportedly lived there after neighbors saw a car flee the scene. House owned by J G Dunn, a real estate dealer.
Bahaklan owner of a grocery at 1438 Saat Tenth street reports being robbed of 136.05 by two bandits after closing his shop. He said the cash covered receipts for Friday and Saturday. He locked the store and started toward 7408 Fast Tenth to deliver groceries before returning home.
Evansville Ind Dec 27 John Buchenberger 45, superintendent of the Sterling Products Company makers of canned goods and soft drinks, killed himself in the company office basement. He shot himself in the heart and was found today. Officials believe distress over impending layoff on January 1 due to dull business. He is survived by a family.
Nearly $2,000 worth of radium, about one third of a missing supply from Axtel hospital, was recovered from 3800 pounds of ashes by Eastern chemists. The radium vanished two months ago and investigators suspect it was in bandages burned in the furnace. More ashes will be shipped for examination.
The new mayor announces cost cuts saving about 13304 yearly by demoting or eliminating lieutenant and captain positions across the police and court system. It notes the mayor’s wife being named to the park board and lists reductions in detective, turnkey, garage, and juvenile court staff with total annual savings.
Washington December 27 The armament conference may not resolve the naval auxiliary craft issue and may defer it to a future international meeting. France rejects the American plan to keep submarines at status quo while Japan remains opposed to the compromise. French and American leaders discussed the matter with Secretary Hughes as Paris reassesses its demand for a submarine tonnage of at least 90 000 tons and emphasizes defensive needs. The situation will be reviewed by the naval committee tomorrow with possible continuation on page three.
6000 Jags were prevented as whisky and beer were poured into a sewer in a federal building to deter New Year intoxication. Deputy marshals supervised the destruction, led by Frederick VanNuys and US Marshal Matt Storen, as liquor from bootleggers was dumped. The event aimed to curb tippling and save roughly 23480 in liquor value at $15 per quart.
Announcement that options have been obtained on a quarter block at the northeast corner of Illinois and Ohio for a proposed fifteen story hotel. James Cruse of Cruse Realty, agent for Jackson Hotel Company, says nearly 5 million dollars will be invested with Eastern financing. The plan includes 196 front feet on Ohio and 202 1/2 on Illinois, white stone facade, red brick and terra cotta cornice, and a 12 story guest room block. Plans by the 3. K. Mayor-elect Lew Shank announced drastic cuts in the police force eliminating several higher titles. Eight patrolmen and two sergeants would replace thirteen officers, aiming to save approximately $13,000 yearly. The move follows appointing Mrs. Shank to the park board and restructures in the detective and juvenile court offices.
