Socialist leader Debs plans to arrive in Terre Haute tomorrow afternoon at 3 49 o clock as part of a domestic political visit. Harding is referenced as ready to begin related events.
Eugene V Debs, newly freed from Atlanta Federal prison, tells The Indianapolis Star he will join efforts to liberate all political prisoners. He met President Harding briefly at the White House and plans to return home to Terre Haute after his Washington visit, with Attorney General Daugherty stating a future public recommendation on the case.
In Detroit on Christmas Eve a defective gas heater released fumes killing Gaetano Marmonti his wife and three children. Neighbors reported a lit Christmas tree and police found the family in their beds with Marmonti near his wife as he tried to wake them. Marmonti had recently moved from West Virginia to work in an auto plant.
LeW Shank will be sworn in as mayor next Monday at noon in city hall balcony with Judge W W Thornton administering the oath and Rev Willard O Trueblood giving the prayer. Ceremonies will be simple and the new administration will immediately begin appointing and confirming department officials and staff. New appointments include Clara Chorley as term secretary and others in municipal offices, while fire and police heads are not yet announced.
The body of B L Harsell, a wealthy New York clubman and sportsman missing since April after leaving Roanoke Virginia to walk toward the Georgia line, was found in Mitchell County North Carolina. Detectives Brim of Galax Virginia say evidence points to murder and link the body to the Pigeon Roost Creek area where the search traced over Mt Mitchell to a remote part of the county.
In Passaic New Jersey a fleeing driver Anthony Van Gulick of Pagante struck and killed two Clifton boys Joseph Tenzog 15 and William Frost 10 after police chased him on suspicion his car had injured Stephen Zentner 60. The car crashed into a telegraph pole and Van Gulick was arrested.
Moscow dispatch reports ninth All Russian Soviet Congress approving Lenine’s economic policy and accepting the U S relief offer of 20 million dollars in grain with a 10 million dollar purchase condition. Delegates criticize leaders amid labor discontent while Lenine defends policies and urges faster industrial management. Page five continued.
In Key West Emanuel Tread, owner of a coffee shop, killed William Ho Decker after being beaten by a armed mob. The mob dragged him from jail, beat him, and dumped him in a car, later barricading the courthouse cupola while Marines and deputies struggled to regain control.
London reports Premiers Lloyd George and Briand plan inviting Soviet foreign minister Chitcherin and Mitvinoff to London early next year to seek clear policy answers. Conversations likely to begin February 8.

C Frank Keeney and Fred Mooney district No 17 United Mine Workers of America leaders and William Bilgzard sub district president were jailed in Logan WV after surrendering to Sheriff Chafin preparing to plead to indictments tied to the armed Logan County march last summer. They had been released from Charleston jail after posting $10,000 bail each and had been held there on related matters from the Tug River district unrest.
David Mon roe Kitselman, 62, capitalist and vice president of Kitselman Brothers Company and Indiana Steel and Wire Company, died at his Muncie home after two days of pneumonia. Born near Ridgeville, Randolph county, he moved his firm's operations to Muncie 21 years ago with brothers A I, C M, and F F Kitselman. he was a prominent figure in state manufacturing circles.
Dr J W Arnold age 69 a city physician died suddenly of heart disease while standing at a patient’s bedside in the home of Frederic Robbins Columbus Indiana He suffered a head injury striking a door frame during the fall He was a native of Hendricks County and practiced medicine here twenty five years a graduate of Indiana Medical College His widow survives him and he was the last member of his father’s family.
