Governor Warren T. McCray predicts an improving year for farmers and industry as war finance, farm relief, and long-term foreign trade measures take effect. He stresses thrift and communal effort, noting rising farm product prices and the need for inked congressional relief to stabilize markets and wages.
Cairo dispatch notes ongoing unrest across Egypt with martial law warnings and military control in Port Said. A flotilla of Nile armed boats is planned for Upper Egypt as twelve people die in Cairo. Mr and Mrs Lon Ashley both about 65 of Oaktown were killed when their closed car was struck by an Indianapolis bound Vandalia train near Sandborn Knox county. The crash occurred as they visited Christmas Day with their daughters and en route to a hotel. The coroner will investigate and officials cited limited whistle warnings and driver distraction as possible factors.
An automobile carrying four people went off a road four miles northeast of Noblesville Indiana this evening. One person, Ruth Robbinson aged 19, died at the scene. A second occupant was fatally injured and another severely injured while the fourth escaped injury.

Four men are reported killed and one seriously wounded in a gunfight at Elys in Knox county. The dead include Russ Baker Barbourville chief of police Tim Pine of Barbourville Jim Bodkins and his son Chick Bodkins of Elys. Another Bodkins is said to be badly wounded. The shooting occurred in a remote part of the county with few details available.
In Millen Georgia a road closure dispute ended in a fatal gun battle. Farmer Watson Allen fired on approaching car occupants R H Chance Bidney Rowe Willie Lewis and Roscoe Chance. The auto occupants returned fire killing Allen and wounding Rowe Roscoe Chance. Allen’s road closure right was to be decided in court Wednesday.
Kew Howst Fla Dec 36 Pursued by an angry mob Manuel Head restaurant proprietor charged with killing William Becker took refuge in a private dwelling cupola. Marines escorted Head to jail after he surrendered as the mob threatened further violence. The shooting followed an attack on Head by a masked band.
Mrs. S. C. Stimson, 60, of 721 Maple Avenue, was struck by an automobile and dragged seventy five feet in front of her son Miller Davis’s residence in Terre Haute Indiana. The car did not stop. Stimson was a prominent Indiana civic reform leader active in suffrage clubs welfare and Indianan civic causes.
A residential mandate issued today appoints Liang Shih Y as premier of China. He succeeds Chin Yung Peng, who with his ministers resigned a week ago in Peking.
A Christmas gale of up to fifty miles an hour sweeps San Francisco and coast, causing death and heavy damage. Louis Silverman and his brother Elyie die near Hayward when a small barn-like structure collapses on them. Vessels lose moorings. the Garden City ferry is driven aground. Ferry service between San Francisco and Oakland is suspended at intervals, wires and tracks are crippled, and many buildings lose roofs or are unroofed. Across the bay, Martinez launches sink and anchors drag. telegraph poles topple. Red Cross aids homeless in central California while many remain injured or stranded, with plummeting temperatures complicating relief efforts.
Robert Hallis 48 of New Town Falls was shot and fatally wounded by Leo Dykes 27 of Crawfordsville during a fight at 711 Concord street yesterday. Hallis burst into the house after threatening his wife Edith Hallis who had separated from him. Dykes fired after Hallis pursued him, the bullet striking Hallis in the abdomen. Hallis is in serious condition at the hospital. Dykes is jailed on a charge of shooting with intent to kill.
A street car crash near Roosevelt and Arsenal injures Vernon LeFever 23 with possible skull fracture, grandmother Mary O Lefever 68 with a broken leg, and Limer Cordrey 21 with a deep facial gash and sprained wrist. Others in the car: Maya Lefever, Violet Lefever, Eva Lakever. The party was returning from a Christmas reunion when Cordrey drove, the car was struck, carried fifty feet on the street car, then tipped. The injured were taken to City Hospital. Cordrey left after dressing. Mrs Lefever and Vernon Jr. in serious condition.
In Sioux City Iowa two men are missing after a blaze that caused about 500000 in damage to a three story business block at Fourth and Jackson. Thomas Flynn Independent Auto Company owner and C K Graven elevator man in the Massachusetts block lived in the building. The fire started in Graber dry goods and raged over two hours driven by a stiff wind. The blaze occurred on the seventeenth anniversary of the 1904 fire in the same area.
Official dispatches report a battle in Santa Cruz territory where over 250 outlaws clashed with cavalry. Nineteen bandits were killed and 103 taken prisoner, with around 2,000 horses seized. Government reinforcements including marines and gendarmes were dispatched to restore order amid unsettled conditions.
