Perry Rogers and companion Shinn, both about the same age, were struck by an east bound Panhandle Vania express at a grade crossing eight miles east of Brazil this morning around 9 30. Rogers died instantly and Shinn was badly injured. Both men lived near Reelville. Shinn is the son of Mrs. Charles Shinn formerly of Brazil. The crossing is one of two crossing RR within 200 yards noted for accidents.
A local grocery owner chased off a would be robber after the assailant, who bought 5 cents worth of candy and presented a dollar, drew a revolver and demanded the cash. The robber fled toward the canal, pursued by the grocer and officers including Sergi Murphy and Detectives Martin and Stewart.
