Berlin Aug 2 After a German Cabinet meeting President Ebert issued a decree banning meetings processions demonstrations and publication of periodicals and pamphlets likely to incite sedition The government vows an iron hand and stern action against insurrection while urging law organs to enforce the decree immediately The move comes as labor and political factions press for action against anti republican activities and as pressure grows over the fate of the Reichstag and ratification of the peace treaty

Balloon drop plan delights war memory at English theater

A local story recalls American Legion efforts to advertise a showing of The Man Without a Country by dropping balloons from an airplane. Separate Trials Sought for Obenchain and Burch in Belton Murder Case

Los Angeles Aug 20 lawyers for Mrs Obenchain and Arthur C Burch said every effort would be made to obtain separate trials after they pleaded not guilty to murdering Belton Kennedy broker. Trial set for Nov 1 with a general defense counsel team including Ralph Obenchain and Rev W A Burch. Obenchain to stay for defense of his ex wife while the Rev Burch heads to Evanston for his son's defense. Mrs Obenchain showed signs of collapse in jail. Burch appeared in good health.

Diver entangled in air line suffocation in Harlem River

Vincent De Gentano, a diver, died while laying a submarine electric cable in the Harlem River. Entangled in both his air line and guiding lines, he was asphyxiated as he struggled to free himself. Two other divers aboard the barge found him after he failed to answer the signal.

Body of Farmer Found in Field Near Summitville

James Farmer aged 41, a farmer from northeast of Summitville, was missing for two days before his body was found in a corn field about a mile from his home. Coroner Dr Rinne indicated he fell face forward in mud after becoming ill as the cause. Farmer left home Friday night and did not return Saturday, prompting a search.

At the Indiana State Capitol on Aug 2, W L Taylor for the Indiana Manufacturers Association urged the state public service commission to dismiss Indiana Electric Corporation's petition to merge seven utilities.
