Fire destroys almost forty nine thousand dollars of cotton

New York authorities report nearly 49000 dollars worth of cotton burned yesterday. The owners were Wall & Pinckney and the loss was fully covered by insurance. The incident adds to concerns about fire safety in large cotton stocks.

Fire ruins cotton in Stone Street storehouse

New York on Friday June 29 reports nearly 40000 dollars worth of cotton burned in the upper stories of a Stone Street storehouse owned by Wall and Pickney who insured the stock for sixty thousand dollars. Also notes expected appointment of Randall to the Interior Department and a Senate army bill reducing infantry and adding veterans and colored troops.

Albany Live Stock Market Sees Declines Amid Market Closures

In Albany on Friday June 9, cattle prices fell as New York and Brighton markets closed heavy. About 6,200 head arrived, with early declines of 4 to 3 per cent per pound. by day’s end declines averaged 8 to 18 cents per head. The top price reached 9, prime 7 to 9, and over 200 cattle remained unsold. Sheep receipts around 4,000 with prices from 5 to 6 dollars.

Drowned boy among Sullivan county bathers on Wabash

A boy about twelve years old, son of Mr Hainer, drowned while bathing in the Wabash river last Saturday near Sullivan County. Also reports note oil findings at several wells and a county debt reduction, including a claim of seventy seven thousand dollars paid last year and a projected smaller tax burden next year.
