State Legislature Passes Veloes and Toll Measures

In the State House yesterday the bill amending sections of the County Seats act passed 41 to 6 after amendments. Rail road fare was set at three cents per mile and passed to a third reading. Manhattan Steamship Detained Over 17000 Muskets for Maximilian

The steamer Manhattan of the American and Mexican Steamship Co brought seventeen thousand Springfield muskets from Havana to Vera Cruz for Maximilian. English and French Consuls met with the American representative and signed bills of lading before the vessel sailed.

Arrest of a Counterfeiter in Jersey City

An Italian named Egypte Del Burno was arrested at the Washington Hotel Jersey City on counterfeiting charges. Police found 2500 pounds in counterfeit money along with a dirk knife revolver spring blade ring and other articles.

The body of Jonathan Gillette formerly with Wright Gillette Rawson New York and later in this city, who vanished three years ago, has been found under evidence pointing to murder. The Mayor offers 1,000 dollars for the murderer’s arrest.
