Charleston dispatch reports Benjamin Thompson a wealthy Beaufort District planter recently confined in Columbia insane asylum ended his life by hanging yesterday. Thompson had been placed under care following mental deterioration. Neighbors note his wealth and prominence in local affairs.
Rejection of amendments to the reform bill in the House of Lords followed by adjournment and third reading expected. Other items report treason convictions in Tipperary, arrival of Ambassador Bancroft to Berlin, papal succession talk around Bishop Dan, and ongoing Vienna Holy See concordat negotiations.
