Carpenter Arrested in Saltsburg Case
Harry Washbaugh, a local carpenter, was arrested in Saltsburg after a 16 year old girl, Margaret Horner of Cone Township, testified he assaulted her on a public road in Cone Township. Washbaugh denied the charges when jailed, claiming innocence and noting he left the girl after a dispute. The incident reportedly occurred as he traveled from Saltsburg to Greensburg.

Unearthed Indian Skeleton on Farm Grave
On a Blacklick township farm one week ago Philip Rice dug a grave for a horse and uncovered an Indian skeleton. The white, well preserved bones lay in natural position and were moved to a new spot on the farm. The area contains several Indian mounds and Rice used one mound as a burial place hoping to find relics.

Coral Indiana County center of Joseph Wharton coal and coke operations is idle with no near resumption. About 600 miners and 800 coke ovens were shut down Friday and Saturday after notices posted last week. Coal and coke from Coral went to Wharton furnaces at Bethleben and Wharton New Jersey. Overproduction and high mining and washing costs drive the shutdown. Some workers found jobs in Ernest Iselin and nearby towns.

Coal Deal Nets $159000 For Southwestern Farmers
A 3078 acre McIntire coal tract in Young, Armstrong, Center, Blacklick and Conemaugh townships was sold to M. W. Saxman of Latrobe for $40 an acre, with $159,160 to be distributed among local farmers. The Pennsylvania Railroad is the likely buyer. titles are being abstracted and payments span three months.
