Snatched From The Burning An Old Time Romance
An autobiographical narrative set in Georgia highlights social classes, two suitors, and a perilous secret marriage attempt. Carrie recalls childhood among planters and poor whites, a clandestine union with Harry Du Bois interrupted by Courtney Carroll, a duel, and Carroll's dying confession of protecting her from a dire match.
