Gate receipts at Paton fair beat last year despite rain
Despite heavy rain last week the county fair posted higher gate receipts than the previous year. Thursday receipts exceeded last year by about a thousand dollars and Friday was twenty five dollars higher than in 1922. Rain on Wednesday and Thursday kept crowds away and Saturday’s deluge led to cancellations. Concession sales reached near last year’s total, with 96 eating stands active on the grounds. Upgrades planned include a new concrete grandstand, removal of west side horse stables, more exhibition and race facilities, and a five acre add-on for parking.
