Shelota residents and many nearby families were listed visiting and calling in Mt Union area. Local gatherings included Busy Workers club, a silver seal demonstration, and the Shaeffer reunion at Martins garage, with numerous named families, guests, and Sunday visits across Apollo Tarentum Indiana Leechburg Homer City and Blairsville area.
Cynthia confides in her mother about Sid Foxs marriage plans and an old engagement episode as the Chilton family adjusts to city life. Robert contemplates a new job after the revelation, while Cynthia struggles with love and loyalty amid workplace gossip and changing fortunes.
In a late summer chapter the Chiltons discuss leaving the city life behind. Rob reveals homesickness and future plans while Cynthia contemplates a bank president, and Mrs. Chilton hopes to reclaim the old house as Roger tends their cemetery plot. The family weighs happiness against change and the lure of familiar roots.
A compact Thanksgiving menu features a stuffed 8 to 10 lb ham baked fat side up with a bread crumb and Rice Flake stuffing, spiced with onion, salt, pepper, then basted in a tomato ketchup cider vinegar and brown sugar sauce. Side dish is macaroni in a cheesy cream sauce with a crumb crust, and dessert is Harvest Pudding with fig pudding fruit and whipped cream garnish.
Mr and Mrs 8 L White and family attended the White reunion at Rural Valley. Mrs Theo McCullock and Marmie visited Vandergrift on Friday evening. Mrs Harry Boden and daughters Mary Alice were in Indiana recently. Alfred Bair and daughter Thelma called at Ewing Lambing home Friday evening. The Johns family spent the weekend at Brookville bringing Earl home for a visit. Earl had lived with grandparents in Brookville. The W C T U met at Ewing Lambing home Thursday with leader Mrs Ross Willson discussing Temperance in Sunday Schools. Plans for next year were discussed. Phyllis Wilson visited Max Craig home Parkwood and Evelyn Wilson visited Anna Grays Thursday.
