Wild roses of the dry Southwest described
The wild roses of the Southwest are low stunted bushes with brown branches and many straight prickles. Nature Magazine notes they resemble gooseberry bushes in texture and have purple, rosebud white blooms that are more strawberry-like than true roses. They thrive in heat but resist frost, making northern cultivation difficult.
