Largest potato yield recorded in Indiana County

Arthur Nichol of North Mahoning township produced the largest official potato yield ever recorded in Indiana County. A one tenth acre sample yielded 31.9 bushels per acre in a field with certified Mirrows, rotation, and careful fertilization. Chapman’s nearby acre reached 111 bushels. The event drew 14 farmers as County Agent J W Warner supervised. Indiana County faces a shorter national crop, prompting many growers to store potatoes.
