Lincoln Monument Unveiled at Fairmount Park Amid Crowds
The Lincoln Monument was unveiled on September 21 at Fairmount Park before about ten thousand spectators. Col M' Michael delivered the oration. The bronze figure of the murdered president, modeled in Rome by Randolph Rodgers, rests in a cushioned chair facing south, with quill and scroll symbolizing emancipation. The nine foot six inch seated statue would be nearly eleven feet tall if stood, and inscriptions are listed on the monument.
