The story centers on temptation, deceit, and a criminal mystery.
A man named John Bounce, guided by his wife, assisted in uncovering hidden securities in the Hirkimer & Co office. He and Mary Bounce helped reveal the box containing the missing property, while the head clerk vanished. Bounce became janitor with guards, was rewarded with a home and stock as the firm later incorporated. The clerk who hired him planned to steal the securities.
