A Good Fair at Dayton County Fairs Draw Crowds Despite Rain
Dayton’s annual fair drew thousands despite heavy rains that cut attendance Thursday. Friday brought ideal weather and about 8,000 visitors. Local residents and exhibitors from West and South Mahoning towns won premiums in butter, jelly, poultry, sheep, hogs, cattle, and horse classes while track events featured Indiana entries and Bessie Main’s 2:30 trot placement.

Girls Run Away From Industrial Home To Blairsville
Two young inmates Mary Simmons and Gertrude Reese aged 14 and 12 escaped Sunday morning from the Industrial Home on Eleventh street. They walked to Blairsville, were picked up that evening, and were brought back to the home after a sustained lapse in behavior. Their guardians searched for them, and they were later found in a Blairsville hotel and returned by train. The girls offered no reason for fleeing and seemed repentant.

New Town Near Seward Developments Promised
Three thousand acres of coal land near Seward are set for development by Bark er Bros of Ebansburg. A five mile spur from the Pennsylvania main line at Seward will reach the center of the field enabling large scale openings and operations once finished. Alex Colkitt of West Mahoning township died Wednesday of paralysis aged 72. He was a Smicksburg Lutheran church member and Civil War veteran in company B of the Pennsylvania Volunteers. Survived by wife and five children: Harry, Bartlow, Mrs. Good, Mrs. Guthrie, and Mrs. Miller. Funeral held Saturday in Day ton with Rev. McIntyre. interment in Smicksburg.
