Massacre of Mormon Emigrants at Mountain Meadow
In 1857 a wagon train from Arkansas heading to California was lured by Mormon guides through Southern Utah. At Mountain Meadow the party was attacked by a band of Mormons led by John D. Lee. After forced arms surrender, Lee’s group shot the men and killed many, including a young woman who pleaded for life. Lee admits guilt, seeking to avoid implicating the Prophet.

Alive as a child after apparent death in funeral scare
A medical examination after the afternoon call declared the child dead yet the undertaker prepared the body for burial. Witnesses described a wake, then doctors found life signs such as nail color change after tying a finger cord. The child survived the freezing ordeal, with reports noting ongoing doubt about long-term survival. The NY Herald quoted on Democratic victories and a Boston scene at Faueuil Hall where misidentified Butler was mistaken for him.
