Court Postponed as an Economy Step in Indiana County

Lack of county funds and tax delays force the court to cancel December criminal and civil sessions as an economy measure. Grand jurors will report December 7 to review indictments, while others are instructed not to appear. Judge Langham calls the move the first of its kind and aimed at saving money. Tax delinquencies threaten the county treasury with $105,000 outstanding, though current levies total $419,129.18, of which $314,129.18 is paid. Delinquent real estate and prior-year taxes remain hard to collect, prompting emphasis on aggressive collection efforts.
