Narrow escape from large fire on West Philadelphia street

A Sunday fire at the old McIar plant on West Philadelphia street narrowly avoided a disastrous blaze due to lacking wind. Five tons of hay and flour from J. R. Henderson’s feed store were ruined by fire and water. An explosion at Ernest Coat injured two people, a boy dying next morning and a miner later. A reduced blast energy and a spark from a miner’s lamp caused the blast. Also, petitions to the Pennsylvania Railroad seek better train connections linking 17:20 and 3:55 departures with eastern and western express trains.
