FREAK STORMS DUE TO ELECTRIC RING
London physicists Chap man and Ferraro propose a near earth electric ring as the cause of magnetic storms. They describe a neutral ionized particle stream from the sun forming a current close to Earth that induces magnetism and may persist after solar particle flow ends. The theory estimates the stream travels about 1 000 km per second, reaching Earth in forty hours.
