Pinchot outlines relief, taxes, and bonds plan for emergency aid
Highlights from Gov. Pinchot's message to the special Pennsylvania session detail unemployment figures, aid for 126 000 school children outside homes, and 2 500 000 winter relief recipients. Proposals include a five member State Commission on Unemployment Relief with 25 060 000 raised via Prosperity Bonds, cigarette and billboard taxes, an emergency two cent gasoline tax for two years, and work relief through the Highway Department. A constitutional amendment for bonds and future emergency credits is urged, plus sales postponement and coal industry rehabilitation measures.
