Memorial Day Observances Across Indiana Statewide
Memorial Day will close businesses in Indiana as ceremonies honor soldiers. In county seats, parades form at 10:00 a.m. led by the Municipal band and American Legion Drum Corps, marching to Memorial Park for services under Commander Joseph Porter. Major Charles C. McLain leads the parade. Civil War veterans are few, with ceremonies led by the Indiana Post American Legion and others. Additional services occur in Blairsville, Saltsburg, Spring Church, Apollo, and Marion Center with local officials and veterans addressing crowds and leading wreaths, flag raisings, and Taps. Local observances include church services and parades by veterans, Boy and Girl Scouts, and civic groups. Philadelphia results note Pinchot leading Brown in the Pennsylvania primary. A birth in Smyrna and county licenses update conclude the report.
