Memorial Day Plans and G A R Observances Across Towns

Memorial Day activities are announced by Commander Harry White and Post 28 G A R Indiana. Detailed duties include gathering flowers and marking graves at Oakland Greenwood and St Bernard Cemeteries, with services in Methodist church and Creekside, plus a 7:30 p.m. court house memorial in Indiana. Strongstown Plumville Clarksburg Bolivar and Went Lebanon host parades addresses and church services timed through Monday afternoon and Tuesday.

Cosmopolitan Club Moves into New Quarters

The Cosmopolitan Club has moved to the fifth floor of the Savings & Trust Company building and rooms were dedicated by members. The upper floor includes a roof deck, billiard room, large social room, library, writing desk, ladies’ parlor, and game rooms with Tudor Queen Elizabeth 1566 style furnishings, a first for Indiana.

Sabbath School Workers in Session at Plumville

The 36th Mahoning Union Sabbath School Association convention opened at the Presbyterian church in Plumville with Rev G A Sheets leading devotion and Frank Marshall giving the welcome. Leaders discussed topics on the Holy Spirit and teaching methods, with musical duets and recitations enhancing the program.

Deserter Arrested and Homer City Robbery Report

James M. Marshall filed charges against D. P. Misener for wilful and malicious desertion of his invalid wife, leading to Misener’s arrest in New Alexandria and jail in Blacklick. In Homer City a robbery at John Fleming drug store yielded razors, pocketbooks, fountain pens, and about five dollars. suspects were a gang of colored men seen nearby.

Wells Under Way as Phillips Drills Two Local Wells

Phillips Gas Company continues work on a new well on the 8 D Kerr farm in South Mahoning township. The derrick nears completion and drilling will start soon. A second well on the Ebbert Brewer farm near Rossmoyne will be drilled deeper.

Fire destroys John Stewart’s modern barn in Burrell Township

Early yesterday morning a blaze of unknown origin destroyed the new barn on Rev. Hill farm in Burrell Township owned by John Stewart. The fire consumed two valuable horses and many farming implements. Stewart estimates losses at 3000 dollars, with 700 dollars insured. The incident is suspected arson.

Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce Visit to Indiana

About 75 members of the Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce visited Indiana yesterday on their tenth annual trade excursion. They arrived at 2 25 p m and spent one hour calling on local patrons before continuing to Johnstown for the night.

Mrs. Elkin Surprised By Birthday Masquerade Party

Breezedale resident Mrs. John P. Elkin celebrated her birthday with a surprise masquerade party hosted by Indiana friends at the Elkin home. Guests wore old fashioned gowns and masks before their identities were revealed. Refreshments followed, and the gathering proved a hearty hello from the community. Professor Shaw to Inspect Local Farms by Special Train

Purchase Line Woman Died In Her Chair

In Purchase Line a woman, Sarah Buterbaugh Houk, died at home on Saturday night from heart neuralgia while her family briefly stepped outside to view a comet. She leaves four children and was active in Mast Mahoning Baptist church. Funeral services were held Tuesday. Nearby, Samuel Hogue of Cokeville reportedly died by suicide with carbolic acid in an upstairs room after heavy drinking. He was 59, survived by wife and four children.
