Sheriff's Sale Notice in Indiana County Auction

Virtue of writs of vend ex and bi fiat issued by the Court of Common Pleas of Indiana County, there will be a public sale of real property at the sheriff's office in Indiana, on the first day of March, 1372. Auction stated to include property described in the writs and directed by the court.

Kent Will Reveals Confederate Claims and Seemingly Damned Gift

The Richmond Journal excerpts Horace D U Kent's will noting a daughter disloyal to the Lost Cause. He bequeaths Confederate bonds worth 25 000 dollars, 18 emancipated servants, insurance and bank stocks totaling 15 000 and claims against the Confederate Government for 200 000. He laments secession ruined his fortune, noting he could have left more to children otherwise. The deceased's wealth arose from a Northern mercantile family now based in Richmond.
