John A. Ruet fruit extension specialist at Penn State led two pruning demonstrations last Friday advising waiting weeks to prune peach trees to assess wood death. He noted fall peach blossom buds are mostly killed and heavy cutting may be needed if only blossom buds die. Pruning grapes is best before leaves fully develop and bleeding is not harmful. Indiana County Fruit Growers Association directors met at Clarence McHenry’s home to plan experiments with Tar pocide versus nicotine on aphids and to revive an Apple Show this fall after prior discontinuations. A summer or fall field day will be held at A Woodward Smith’s Blairsville orchard. Secretary Stonebraker announced arrival of a carload of spray material and will notify buyers.
