A Coxswain's Deed Aboard the Chrysolite at Tsi-Chan
Captain Bellamy survives a night assault after being wounded by a fingal ball to the knee. Coxswain James Larch uses his silk handkerchief and tobacco box to compress the artery and carries the captain to shelter, confessing love for Violet Bellamy and revealing his pledge to protect the captain’s daughter. He then rushes back toward the fort to cover the retreat, shouting a last confession before being cut down by enemy fire.
