Commencement Exercises Highlight Graduates and Reunion

Tragic 8 year old girl dies in drowning incident near Shelocta

A serious accident at a camp near Shelocta claimed the life of an eight year old girl, daughter of Lewis Weiss. Rescue attempts failed as bystanders and the community gathered at the scene. The funeral and interment followed at United Presbyterian burial grounds near Shelocta.

Health officials convene county meeting on formaldehyde use

County health officials met at Dr W A Simpsons office in town on Friday with 12 of 14 districts represented. Report blanks were distributed as the state explains formaldehyde disinfectant use. THREE ESTATES DIVIDED AND FILED

The will of Mary F. Binchey of White township is filed leaving her entire estate to sister Lavina J. Willis, dated June 21, 1901. John H. McFadjen of town and formerly Big Run files a will bequeathing gold watch to son Clifford and the rest to the widow executor, dated September 24, 1904. Chambers S Moore of Saltsburg files a will leaving entire estate to son James Clark Moore, dated January 22, 1907.

Foreigner stabbed in Ernexton. Brown in serious condition

Reported Sunday in Ernexton, Blayd Brown of Creekside was stabbed in the right side by Frank Veracqua, a foreigner, after a dispute at the latter’s home. Brown, who had been drinking, allegedly fought back as a bottle was thrown. the assailant fled and has not been arrested.

Lightning kills two in county in separate accidents

A bolt during a Saturday electrical storm struck a walnut tree at Joseph Barbota’s property, killing John Wills who was digging fence posts and injuring a building adjacent to the wire. Mrs. Wills found the body. a small burn marked the chest. Wills, 60, lived in Blacklick. his survivors include son Oliver and daughter Blanche. In the same afternoon, 14-year-old Charles Smith was struck dead at his father Joseph Smith’s home in Gipsy while helping with potato work. David Gearn’s house near Purchase Line was struck, wrecked, two relatives injured. Interments held at nearby cemeteries.

Big Fourth of July Festivities Planned at Shelocta

Shelocta plans a large Fourth of July with events along Crooked Creek. A morning game between Shelocta and Elderton, races, and a festival in the McGracken lot will entertain both young and old. Citizens urged to bring baskets and enjoy a day of community amusements. Local timber magnate Mr. McAfee owns large tracts near Clyde, N C, to be developed over years into lumber and markets. J. H. Cassidy of Cappe township named Justice of the Peace to fill a vacancy.

Obituary: Mrs Nancy Carley Dies at 74 in Punxsutawney

Mrs Nancy Carley of Punxsutawney, a native of Indiana County born in 1833, died at her daughter Florence Huntington’s home on Wednesday at more than 74. She was married to David H. Carley, who died 13 years ago. Survived by three sons, five daughters, 25 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren. children listed including W. Carley of Phoenix, John G. Carley of Punxsutawney, D. C. Mrs Catherine Cunningham Dies at About 70 in Blairsville

Mrs Catherine Cunningham of Blairsville died Thursday morning at about 70 after a lingering illness. Widow of Samuel Cunningham she had no children and was active in the Methodist Episcopal church. Funeral services were held Saturday and burial was in Blairsville cemetery. Survived by brothers and sisters Martin Johnston Burrell Township Annie Sutton Wilkinsburg N G Miller and Miss Mary Johnston Blairsville.

Mrs Titzgerald of Georgeville Dies in Vandergrift Visit

Mrs. William Titzgerald of George ville died suddenly on Thursday while visiting her daughter Mrs. J M Barr of Vandergrift at age 89. Heart trouble caused death. Survived by husband eight children and 25 grandchildren. Interment held at Georgevilla on Saturday.

Stone Throwers Detained in Creekside Disorder Charge

Two workers at Ernest were arrested by Constable James Kidd of Creekside on Sunday for disorderly conduct. A preliminary hearing set for Monday would determine charges. The men reportedly were prowling a house during the incident.

First National Bank of Homer City Granted Charter

It will occupy temporary counters in the Arlington hotel building with a planned later move to a newly crafted premises.
