Inauguration Tales From Washington and Beyond
Pickard recounts how Washington's oath in New York set a pattern for later inaugurations. He notes Jefferson’s simple 1801 ceremony, Jackson's raucous 1829 day, Harrison's fatal march, and Lincoln's dramatic 1861 oath amid security, crowd chaos, and a sunlit moment of fate.
