A crowded session detailed numerous cases including Commonwealth vs Harry S Shultz and others. Proceedings covered burglary and larceny charges, naturalization denials, and a grand jury report on county bridges and court improvements.
The Pomona Grange hall hosted the largest county party convention with sixty delegates from most districts. George W. Lutman was nominated Sheriff, J R Stumpf for County Treasurer, and others to Prothonotary Assembly Commissioner Auditor Coroner and National Delegate. The party plans a strong campaign for Commissioner.
A large turnout between 500 and 600 gathered to celebrate the 40th wedding anniversary of Pastor Rev. John Tomlinson and 40 years of his ministry. The event featured a community feast, speeches by Prof. Wolf and local pastors, musical performances, and a $30 purse presented to the pastor.
Sheriff Mack conducted Friday sales listing buyers and prices for numerous parcels across Brushvalley Green Armstrong Cherryhill Pine East Mahoning and White townships. Purchasers include W L Stewart John A Scott D I Cunningham D W Krytzer D C Leasure and others with prices ranging from 50 to 1497 for tracts from 2 to 200 acres.

James McDermott, linked to a sensational arrest months ago, was freed on $1,000 bail last Thursday from Pittsburg prison. His trial is postponed until October. he proclaims innocence and expresses no fear of conviction.
Will Leave Tomorrow. Company F N G P, of this place, leave on the 6:25 train to-morrow morning for Hollidaysburg, where they will participate in semi-centennial exercises of Blair county. The boys will return home the same evening.
A. T. Mannerburt of Glen Campbell suffered property damage when lightning struck his residence Sabbath evening amid an electrical storm.
Mrs. Martin Schreckengost of Canoe Township died after ether anesthesia during cancer surgery on her left breast. Age 69, she leaves a husband and four children. She joined the M E church at Hortons, funeral led by Rev. Turner, burial at Rowley near Hillsdale.
Mr Henry Roush, age about 86, died Tuesday June 2 1896 after 50 years in Mahoning township. He left a large family of 15 children nine living including Mrs Mary Ann Bailey and George Roush. Survived by a brother George and sister Mrs Mary Ann Stear. Funeral Thursday at Smicksburg Lutheran church with Rev C L Streamer officiating. interment in Lutheran cemetery.
Florence Truby, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Truby, wed John L. Pittman of Johnstown Pa at the bride’s parents home on Thursday June 4. The ceremony was led by Rev. Bk W Runyan with assistants. The couple, their attendants and guests enjoyed an elegant noon ceremony under orange blossoms and a generous dinner before departing for their Johnstown home. Grandfather Simon Truby, age ninety two, attended nearby as the couple received well wishes and presents amid a rice sendoff.
Mr Frank McKee and Miss Wilda Kerr both of Rayne township wed at the Lutheran parsonage, with Rev Lewis Hay officiating on Thursday. Attendants included Mr James McKee and Miss Lizzie Ray. A reception followed that evening at the bride’s home.
Mr Thomas Askins of Cherryhill township died Thursday morning at 8 o clock at his daughter Mrs J D Martin s home in Martintown aged 73 years five months and 11 days after over three years of diabetes He was born in county Derry Ireland and came to this county at age nine He lived on the old Askins farm all his life until ten months ago He is survived by nine grandchildren and one great grandson Funeral services were held at Bethel United Brethren church by Rev Wylie Penn Run and burial was in the church graveyard.
Mrs Susan Fulmer widow of S P Fulmer of Rayne township died at her daughter’s home near Purchase Line on Wednesday aged 79 years 8 months 19 days after years of asthma. Husband died six years ago. Fifteen children born, ten living. 33 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She joined Bethel Lutheran early in life and remained a devout Christian. Buried in Bethel cemetery.
A closely fought game at Normal between Normal and Derry ended in a 3 3 tie after nine innings were not completed due to travel. Derry scored in the sixth, Normal answered in the seventh, with St Clair and Sherrard delivering strong fielding and McMullen pitching to please Indiana fans. Umpire Sutton drew comment for rough calls as MacCartney took over late. The detailed score followed.
Constable Roser of Brushvalley and Jail Warden Miller seized Perry Grambling at Joseph Cramer's saw mill in Brushvalley township on a Thursday. As Miller applied handcuffs Grambling sprang and bolted, sprinting a mile and a half through the woods with remarkable speed.
Mr Matthew Ross aged 23 son of Mr and Mrs John Ross of Brushvalley township died Saturday morning of consumption after months of ill health. Remains were taken to Pittsburg for funeral services at his sister Mrs Taylor’s home on Tuesday and interment followed.
Mrs John Painter of Banks township died Tuesday June 2 1896 from dropsy at about 35. The remains were interred at Fairview church graveyard in Grant township on Thursday.
Miss Ella Gilman of Elderton died on Wednesday from Brights disease at age twenty five. Her funeral arrangements will be announced by the family.
Greensburg borough council votes to prohibit Sunday sales of soda water confections and merchandise of all kinds except cigars and drugs, enforcing a strict blue law. The move targets retail hours and product categories for the local community.
The examination for permanent certificates for teachers of the county was held in the Third and Fourth ward schools on Friday. The examining board consisted of Mesars. W. C. McKee of Blaireville J. P. Archibald of Saltsbury and Edwin Bach of this place. The class numbered ten.

A three-year-old colt owned by M. H. Johnston of White Township died Saturday from a spinal and kidney ailment. The animal was noted as a fine roadster and showed promising traits before death.
A small cyclone visited the southwestern county causing heavy rain and fierce winds during Sabbath services at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. Crops in Armstrong, Young and Conemaugh townships suffered major damage with ruined cornfields and uprooted fruit trees. A bolt struck Benjamin Long’s house near West Lebanon injuring him and his daughter who were unconscious briefly. A horse was knocked down and a stampede followed as fear spread among worshippers.

A stable on James S Lewis property in Third Ward burned early Sabbath morning between 1 and 2 o'clock. The alarm sounded, but the fire killed the structure before many could arrive. The blaze started in the upper part where a cache of coin was kept, and Lewis suspects thieves lit a match to steal grain, igniting the stable.
James Fleming and Frank Johnston of Homer City collided while chasing a ball on Friday. Fleming lost four teeth and Johnston sustained a deep cut above the eye.
The Normal baseball team defeated Blairaville 25 to 18 on Blairaville’s grounds Monday. Normal led early and built a large lead, securing a decisive win as Blairsville managed 18 runs.
