Henry Coleman Taught the First Pupils in Indiana's Old Log School

A historical account details Indiana's early education from 1806 when Henry Coleman taught in a Water Street log house to the rise of the public school system. It recalls the Academy era, the 1826 brick building, borough consolidations in 1805, and the evolution to eight and then sixteen room schools. The piece notes ongoing needs for a modern four-year high school with laboratories and community use.
