Prisoner Spy and a Confederate Guard in a Faraway War
A first person reminiscence recalls a Civil War incident where a female spy was arrested near a Confederate camp after loitering by the guards. The narrator, punished for leaving his post, later witnesses a battle as Federal troops assault a Confederate line. He contemplates fate, desertion, and the long arc of life since the event forty five years ago.
