Sickness drains hospital supplies across Pennsylvania
A Pennsylvania hospital counted yearly use of vast medical materials per bed including 24 pairs of rubber gloves a half mile of bandages and adhesive and 42 pounds of absorbent cotton. With 291 hospitals and 68 000 beds the state would need 1 600 000 gloves 18 000 miles of bandages and more than 2 000 000 pounds of cotton per year. Half of these supplies support charity patients who pay nothing.
