Accusation Turns Against Stubborn Neighbor in Creston

An 1821 Creston tale recounts David Barry’s election to the town board and the feud with John Ward. Ward’s cruelty, a hidden romance between Barry’s son Elmer and Cecille Barry, and a barn confrontation lead to Ward’s eventual downfall as Bryce Ward is found in Barry’s barn. Barry helps secure bail, relocates Bryce, and Ward resigns after learning of his son’s escape and Barry’s humane acts. Ward ends his feud with Cecille watching from the golden seat.
