Glasser and Son's Narrow Escape in Tree Lightning Strike
J F Glasser and son Jas C of Rayne township faced a terrifying evening when a fierce electrical storm drove them to shelter under briars. A lightning bolt struck a nearby white oak, shattering it and knocking them and their horses to the ground. The horses bolted to the barn, leaping a gate. James was briefly unable to rise. The incident followed another lightning shock to Michael Rifle's horses at New Florence.

Hwacal Gardener Orders His Own Moisture
Irrigation system at Kissinger's Truck Farm proves successful as a dedicated two acre celery plot benefits from Skinner's Irrigation System. Water is sprayed from five long pipe lines to irrigate sections, using a cement tank and three springs to supply a 600 barrel capacity, attracting visitors to the celery dominate garden with 16,000 cabbage plants and onions to feed an army.
