Grid position and amplification in three electrode tubes

A historical note explains grid relative position to filament and plate, mesh size effects, and the relation between grid voltage and plate current. It discusses the amplification factor IX, with examples where 40 volts on the plate corresponds to five volts on the grid, and how mesh fineness or coarseness alters the required grid potential. It also covers symmetric grid-drive behavior, the use of a grid bias battery designated O, and how these factors affect detector and amplifier operation in amateur radio tubes.

Big Ships Radio Equipment On Paris And Lafayette

The ships Paris and Lafayette feature a five kilowatt transmitter with a 2000 to 9000 meters wave range and a motor generator for plate high tension and filament heating. Each carries a radio range finder or goniometer, a radio compass. Messages from the Paris have covered 3400 kilometers safely.

Professor Bell Keeps Teasing Radio With Telephone

Alexander Graham Bell at seventy five remains engrossed in listening to and experimenting with the telephonic device he helped create. Friends say he is ardent about the radiophone and not tired of trial and error, despite moving the telephone from his home after it annoyed him.

Radio circuit tuning cautions for oscillation stability

The guide warns that equal strength oscillation over a wide range needs near constant L to C ratio when tuning, and that matching natural periods of trekler and grid circuits is essential. It cautions against placing the variometer tight to the grid coil, using high impedance tubes in low impedance circuits, and suggests trying multiple detectors with a soft gas tube for detection and a hard tube for oscillation. It also warns against shellac for inductors due to moisture absorption.
