Honey Crop Unusually Great This Year in Pennsylvania

The Pennsylvania honey crop is unusually large and good in quality according to H. A. Surface, Zoologist for the state Department of Agriculture. Rainy weather last year boosted nectar plants, while current sun and blossoms from crimson clover to white clover and linden support strong production. Despite a severe winter and virulent foul brood in some areas, most colonies survived and rebounded, with beekeepers dividing superseded hives to prevent swarming. Agricultural notes report oats improving, wheat yields down, dairy cattle gains, and farm product markets aided by growing auto traffic. hay and potato conditions vary by county.
