Rich and idle: slow pay and price haggling in high society
Cleveland Moffett in Success Magazine recounts anecdotes of the wealthy delaying bills and haggling for discounts. He notes a Newport society wife who delayed payment for her daughter’s wedding dress, a Newport lady who extols advertising value over price, and a Fifth Avenue wife pleading for $15 off two gowns. He also cites a millionaire husband altering yacht brasses with aluminium paint to curb payroll.

Expensive autograph hunt for Mary Queen of Scots draft
A London reviewer notes a £900 sale for a Mary Stuart draft, arguing value lies in historical curiosity rather than contents. The piece contrasts a 1576 state paper parcel and Parsee wealth with Sunday rest debates in France and defines heaven as a state of spiritual existence per Alger and London Standard.

The Posts Corner Gone Forever
The fragment recalls a deserted place once housing the old log schoolhouse now hidden from view. A morning sky and a bridge over the river mark a farewell scene as families depart. The verse hints at healing in study and in a mother's understanding, capturing a rural farewell mood.
