A RAILROAD TIEUP
Chicago labor strikes paralyze Belt Railway transfers disrupting inter state freight flows. Deputized officers guard trains at Riverdale and Dalton while crews clash with mobs, as Illinois Central, Chicago and Alton, and other lines report varied operations and halted services amid the nationwide disruptions.
Central road crews repair damaged track amid police protection
Central people, manned almost wholly by officers of that road. With the protection of a number of police the damaged track was repaired. A special train stands on a side track at Ft. Sherman, ready to haul United States troops at the first call. The Trades and Labor assembly has given six men authority to tie up every industry in Chicago, in support of the strikers, if necessary. San Francisco, July 2.-There seems to be no improvement in the strike situation and judging by the occurrences of the past few hours, even if the Southern Pacific succeeds in sending out more trains from the Oakland yards there is but little prospect that they will proceed for on their way. All trains are allowed to leave the city, but are stopped out in the country.
