Five Thousand Relatives at a Mock Springdale Race Track
A satirical tale follows Roaring Reggie and Mayor Mandreau as they push a dubious private racing scheme in Springdale. A crowd of "Smith" relatives attends a club housed as a family reunion while counterfeit betting with chips and a secret stock scheme tempt locals. The mayor contemplates action but is ultimately swayed to issue a racing permit, amid warnings of legality and liquor concerns. The narrator reveals the Smith family fever for racing and a twist ending where Reggie discloses his real surname is Jones.
