County officials rebut a Pittsburg paper claim of an empty treasury. Investigations show about 3,000 in the treasury and 8,000 of unpaid taxes, with funds expected soon from Moncey and other sources, keeping credit intact. Expenditures rose last year due to 40,000 spent on bridges from spring floods, with 24,000 from bond sales and 9,000 redeemed.
M C Watson of the Indiana Telephone Company attends a Clearfield meeting that may yield a rival to Pennsylvania Bell. The plan aims to consolidate Indiana with Clearfield and Huntingdon networks to extend independent service across the state. Promoters include Rembrandt Peale and James Kerr who hold coal interests in the county. If approved, at least $25,000 will be spent on local construction next year.
