Ancient Texas mounds may reveal links to Aztec and Pueblo cultures
Dr. A Ferree of the University of Texas notes Texas camp sites and burial mounds could illuminate ancient relations among the Aztecs of Mexico, Pueblo peoples of the southwest, and Mississippi Valley mound builders. He cites Burned Reed Mounds in plains regions, describes superposed lime stone fires and extensive refuse, and suggests origins dating from 2000 to 6000 years ago, with further clues from wooded Texas mortuary mounds and fine pottery traditions.
